FAQs

Questions, answered

Which ITR form should I file?

It depends on your income sources. Salaried individuals with simple income often use ITR-1; capital gains or multiple properties push you to ITR-2; business or professional income uses ITR-3 or ITR-4; firms and LLPs use ITR-5; companies use ITR-6. The tool suggests a likely form, which a professional should confirm.

What documents do I always need?

At a minimum: PAN and Aadhaar, bank details for any refund, your Form 26AS and AIS, and proof of deductions you want to claim (such as 80C and 80D). The tool adds documents specific to your income type.

I have capital gains — does that change anything?

Yes. Capital gains generally move you to ITR-2 (or ITR-3 if you also have business income) and require broker/AMC statements, sale and purchase details, and proof of any reinvestment exemptions.

Do I report foreign income or assets?

If you are a resident with foreign income or assets, you must disclose them (Schedule FA) and may claim foreign tax credit via Form 67. This requires additional documents and usually ITR-2 or ITR-3 — get professional help.
