Overview
What is FSSAI Return Filing?
Certain food business operators — principally manufacturers and importers — must file an annual FSSAI return in Form D1 for each licensed food product category, declaring quantities manufactured/handled during the year. It's generally due by 31 May for the preceding financial year. Some milk and dairy units additionally file a half-yearly return in Form D2.
Not every FBO has to file — small retailers and many Basic Registration holders don't — but for those who must, late or non-filing attracts a per-day late fee on the FoSCoS portal.
We confirm whether returns apply to you, compile the production/handling data, and file your FSSAI returns on time.

FAQs
FSSAI Return Filing — frequently asked questions
Who has to file an FSSAI return?
Principally food manufacturers and importers with an FSSAI licence file the annual Form D1; some milk/dairy units also file the half-yearly Form D2. Many small FBOs don't file at all.
When is the FSSAI annual return due?
Form D1 is generally due by 31 May for the preceding financial year. Form D2 (where applicable) is half-yearly.
Is there a late fee?
Yes — a per-day late fee accrues on FoSCoS for returns filed after the due date, so timely filing matters.
Do Basic Registration holders file returns?
Generally no — return filing mainly applies to manufacturers/importers on a licence. We confirm whether it applies to you.
What data goes into the return?
Category-wise quantities of food products manufactured, handled or imported during the period, reconciled with your records.
What's the difference between D1 and D2?
D1 is the annual return for manufacturers/importers; D2 is a half-yearly return for certain milk and dairy units. Some file both.
Can you manage my returns every year?
Yes — we can run your D1 (and D2) each cycle with reminders, kept aligned with your licence and renewals.
